The Manual of Yuan's Texturizing Strokes represents a radical, fractured reconstruction of the classical landscape coding system. Diverging from the dependence on natural prototypes seen in the Manual of the Mustard Seed Garden, Yuan Hui-Li has invented thirty-two "Texture Monads," liberating the Cunfa (texture mark) from the traditional principle of mimesis.

Within this framework, a fissure opens between the signifier and the signified. The brushstrokes, which originally pointed to the textures of mountain rocks, are suspended and recoded as totems of emotion. Landscapes are no longer mere natural scenery but become "Sentient Stones" engraved with the passions and sorrows of the mundane world. Through a 'feminine writing' (écriture féminine) of direct emotions, Yuan replaces the codified texture laws of the traditional male literati.​ These juxtaposed, repetitive, and varying texture forms serve as both an aria of personal trauma and sentiment, as well as a metaphor for the hybridity of Taiwan’s multi-colonial culture and the clamorous reality of a globalized world.


The 'feminine codes’ of the Manual of Yuan's Texturizing Strokes is approach challenges the rational, structured visual rules of traditional landscape painting, instead seeking an artistic language that is more sensual, intuitive, and deeply connects with the viewer's inner world. It's not just a new definition for 'cunfa,' but a complete redefinition of landscape painting's aesthetics and potential, viewing and remaking the link between 'cunfa' and the mind through a more 'feminine writing' lens.

《袁氏皴譜》是袁慧莉對古典山水編碼系統的一次斷裂式重構。不同於《芥子園畫譜》對自然客觀原型的依附,袁慧莉發明了三十二式「皴單子(Monad of Texture Marks)」,將皴法從師造化的「類似性」中解放。
在這裡,符號的能指與所指產生裂隙,原本指向山石紋理的筆觸,被懸空後重新編碼為情緒的圖騰。山石不再是自然的景觀,而是儁刻著紅塵愛恨情緒的「通靈寶石」。袁慧莉以女性直抒情感的「陰性書寫」,取代了傳統男性文人的皴法法則。這些雜沓並置、重複且變異的皴形,既是個人創傷與情感的詠嘆,亦隱喻著台灣島嶼多元殖民文化的雜交現狀,以及全球化時代下眾聲喧嘩的世情縮影。
《袁氏皴譜》中的「陰性編碼」,挑戰了傳統山水畫中理性且結構化的視覺規則,這不僅是對「皴法」的新定義,更是對山水畫美學與潛能的全面翻轉,透過「陰性書寫」的視角,重新審視並重構了「皴法」與「心靈」之間的連結。
