Amidst the mutations of modernity, how does ink painting reshape its contemporary forms and aesthetic vocabulary to reflect the shifting phenomena of our era? "Modern Ink Painting" was once founded on the radical mission to "overthrow the brush" and "revolt against the centered-tip technique," casting off the shackles of millennial tools and techniques to ignite an unprecedented formal revolution. However, a closer scrutiny of its essence reveals that much of "Modern Ink" still clings to the aesthetics of "likeness in unlikeness" and the fluid, dripping textures of traditional ink play—essentially following the classical ink logic of the Song and Yuan dynasties. In other words, a truly contemporary aesthetic theory for ink remains to be fully constructed. "Moist and Burnt: As Ink Breathes_Yuan Hui-Li Solo Exhibition" manifests the artist’s profound innovative thinking, pushing beyond the unfinished revolution of Modern Ink. From the perspective of global warming and environmental change, Yuan proposes the concept of "Fiery Ink" (fire ink). By transforming the very essence of the ink material, she expands the aesthetic discourse of contemporary "ink-ness."
水墨在現代性的變異中,如何重塑屬於當代的墨性型態與美學語彙,藉以映現時代變遷下的當代現象?「現代水墨」以「革筆的命」、「革中鋒的命」為宗旨,拋開千年以來水墨繪畫工具與技法上的桎梏,衍就水墨畫形式發展上前所未有的變革。然細審「現代水墨」之意蘊,則仍以「不似之似」的寫意、「墨瀋淋漓」的水墨形態,追循宋元古典畫論的墨性美學,易言之,「現代水墨」的當代美學理論仍有待建構與發展。本次「墨的兩種呼吸方式—袁慧莉個展」,具現藝術家對於「現代水墨」革命的未竟之境進行更深刻的革新思維,從全球暖化與環境變遷的觀點出發,提出「火墨」的概念,藉由墨材本質的轉變,拓展當代墨性的美學語境。
