Fiery Ink 2: Quotidian smog
火墨 2:霾日常

The Fiery Ink series serves as a contemporary response to the pervasive atmospheric pollution of our industrial age. In this body of work, I dispense with traditional brushes, instead using my fingers to press and smear the carbonized ash of burnt Xuan paper directly onto the surface. This residual ash functions as a potent metaphor for PM2.5—the fine particulate matter that haunts our modern skies. Crucially, the ash in Fiery Ink is intentionally left unsealed; I refrain from using adhesives to fix the particles to the paper. This allows the carbon dust to migrate freely within the frame, mimicking the erratic drift of soot in the air. Consequently, the artwork remains in a state of perpetual flux. With every relocation or exhibition, the composition shifts subtly—never static, always becoming. Just as the Xuan paper itself develops yellow patinas over time through its interaction with the atmosphere, the work breathes and ages alongside the environment. In Fiery Ink: Part II, my inspiration stems from contemporary news reports on air quality. Through semi-abstract imagery, the works confront the "smog crisis" that defines our daily existence. In an era of hyper-industrialization, global warming, frequent wildfires, and the scars of war, we find ourselves living within a "Quotidian Smog." These pieces are not merely depictions of disaster, but active participants in the shifting, hazy reality of our world.
​《火墨》系列對應的是當今工業時代的空汙現象,我以焚燒後的宣紙炭灰使用手指塗抹按壓畫在宣紙上,宣紙炭灰隱喻空氣中的PM2.5炭微粒,所以,《火墨》作品上的炭灰刻意不使用膠水固定在紙上,使炭灰自由地在框內移動,如同飄散在空氣中的炭微粒一樣,這使得《火墨》作品也在時空移動中畫面不斷產生新的微妙變化,每一次的展出移動,某些炭灰會轉移到別的位置,這使得《火墨》作品不是僵固的,而是持續不斷地變動著;宣紙也是一樣,隨著時間而產生黃斑,這是空氣的作用現象。《火墨》Part 2以當代空污新聞作為靈感,以半抽象畫面為主,隱射現今日常空氣的霾害危機。當代人類社會高度工業化,使地球暖化導致氣候異常,而野火頻繁、空汙霾害、戰爭人禍乃至都市污染,使我們生活在霾日常中。
