Fiery ink I: Displacing the classical series
火墨 1：變古系列
While traditional landscapes celebrate an idealized "Utopia," "Fiery Ink" confronts the stark reality of 21st-century air pollution and climate change. I have shifted the aesthetic focus from the classical "Moist Ink" (Runmo) to a frantic, "Arid Ink" (Zaomo) born of fire, capturing the sensory experience of a world cloaked in smog.
In a radical material subversion, the ink of Fiery Ink is crafted from the carbonized ash of burnt Xuan paper. Though paper and ink both originate from trees, I reverse the process by returning paper to its primal state of ash. This dialogue between material and environment opens a new discursive field for landscape painting, poignantly reflecting our contemporary world.
古典山水多歌頌理想的「桃花源」，卻鮮少觸及當代空汙的現實。在「火墨」系列中，我將傳統水墨氤氳的「潤墨」美學，轉向充滿火氣與不安的「燥墨」，以此回應 21 世紀霧霾籠罩下的氣候現實。特別的是，火墨的「墨」並非傳統墨條，而是來自燃燒宣紙後的炭灰。紙與墨皆源自於樹，我透過「燃燒」將紙還原為灰，與傳統「焚木成墨」的過程同源而異徑。這不僅是材質物性的對辯與顛覆，更是在當代語境下，對山水畫核心美學的全新論述。
In a radical material subversion, the ink of Fiery Ink is crafted from the carbonized ash of burnt Xuan paper.
