During my residency in Beijing in 2007, perhaps due to the displacement from familiar surroundings or the emotional turmoil I was facing at the time, I found myself in a period of profound upheaval. I had resolved to let go of my marriage and stop relying on others—a shift in mindset that fundamentally altered my creative state. I decided to return to my most primal self, discarding long-held habits of brush and ink, and ignoring all classical rules and techniques. I willfully allowed my complex emotions to guide the dots and lines, letting them wander freely to see what they might become.
To me, it felt as though only this raw, unfiltered form of creation could truly answer my inner voice. I no longer wished to suppress my authentic desires just to conform to the aesthetic standards of classical ink painting. When I finished the first piece and hung it on the wall, I was startled: What kind of strange landscape is this? It was unprecedented, yet it held my tears, my frustrations, and my rage. At that time, I didn't realize that the texture strokes (Cun) born from these emotions warranted deep exploration; I simply viewed them as a surreal, illusory world. Thus, I initially titled the series after the "Tai-xu series" from Dream of the Red Chamber. This series was also invited for its debut exhibition in 2008 at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, as part of the "Form, Idea, Essence and Rhythm: Contemporary East Asian Ink Painting."
在2007年北京駐村時，可能是因為離開了熟悉的環境到異地駐村創作，又正巧面臨情感上的糾葛與痛苦，決心要放手婚姻不再依靠他人，這個心態也影響我當下的創作狀態，決定回到最原始自心，拋掉舊有筆墨慣習，不再管什麼古典技法規則，任性地讓當下各種複雜的情緒帶著點線隨意行走，看它們長出什麼來！對我而言，似乎只有這樣直率創作才能回應自己內在的聲音，我不想壓抑內心真正的慾望，去符合古典筆墨的品評標準。當我畫完第一張作品時，將畫掛在牆上回看，自己也嚇了一跳，這是什麼奇怪的山水畫！前所未見，但這裡面有我的淚、我的煩悶、我的氣憤。當時沒有意識到這些情緒所畫出來的皴法應該被述說深究，我只把它們視為超現實的虛幻世界，所以一開始以紅樓夢的「太虛幻境」概念給予命名。​《太虛系列》也首次受邀展於2008年台北市立美術館舉辦的「形•意•質•韻：東亞國際水墨創作邀請展」。
