Yuan Hui-Li created her own "PS. THEY" series, employing "Yuan's Brushstrokes" (袁氏皴法). Through digital image editing and collage, she overlaid the rocks and mountains in Dong Qichang's Ming Dynasty painting Wanluan Thatched Cottage with her self-devised emotional Brushstrokes(Cun皴). This act replaces the classical, naturalistic brushwork with her own emotionally charged strokes. In doing so, not only subverts the brushwork lexicon and system constructed by ancient Chinese male landscape painters with a female consciousness but also deconstructs Dong Qichang's unified brushstroke structure, shifting towards a diverse and differential brushstrokes structure.
